Quite frequently, clients come to me for web redesign - and occasionally they need help bailing out and moving their site and domain name elsewhere. I find that a little education, knowing how it all works in general terms, helps site owners avoid some of the difficulties that can arise. This article by Beth Cohen at Luth Computing does a great job of connecting the dots between internet connection, domain name and web site hosting - and I simply couldn't say it better. It's a little technical - but important - and if you take one thing away, let it be "don't let one company provide your domain name, Web site hosting and Internet connection...if something happens, you lose only one service, not all three."
