Short Bio of Your Business Focused HR Solutions, LLC is a Human Resources Consulting firm that specializes in providing expert human resources management support and strategy development to small and medium size companies. We work closely with senior organizational leaders to develop innovative and effective strategies to deal with needed changes; delivering defined business results!

Programs implemented are geared toward hiring and retaining the right people, and minimizing the risk of employee complaints and litigation. In the world of "people management," many business owners are unaware of the legality of employment related matters. We rely on a hands-on approach to develop effective and innovative solutions, individually designed to fit our client's unique goals. Examples of products and services include performance assessments and improvement plans; strategic people planning; employee handbook and policy development; position description analysis; performance appraisal and leadership development training.

With over 20 years of experience in the broad spectrum of human resources management from the front line to the executive boardroom, we know how to partner with our clients. Focused HR Solutions, LLC works together to understand the needs, learn about the business & culture and develop the necessary solutions to improve the environment, including the bottom line.

Other memberships or affiliations I am a past Chairman of United Way- A&B Divisions, past member of Capital District Business Leaders and HR Committee of NYYSTA, member of the national Society for Human Resources Management, Pastoral Council member for Our Lady of Grace catholic church, Adjunct Professor for the College of St. Rose, Board member of the American Red Cross Adirondack Saratoga Chapter serving on the HR committee and Chairing the Blood Services committee as well as being the first and current Chairman of the Albany-Colonie Chamber's Solo Entrepreneurs Council.

What are some of the unique characteristics of your business? As a specialized firm Focused HR Solutions, LLC is ideal for organizations that require additional professional support for critical projects concerning organizational/managerial development,employee/labor-management relations or overall HR functional assessment and assistance. We provide the HR expertise "at your elbow" that many businesses can't afford on a full time basis.

How do you distinguish yourself from your competitors? I decided on this career path at 17 when I was planning my college selection. Many HR consultants are people who "ended up" in HR after performing in some aspect of HR such as recruiting or benefits administration. I deliberately pursued this profession as a career. I earned a B.S. in Industrial Relations from LeMoyne College and Professional Certification from the national Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM). My experience and resulting expertise was developed while serving as HR Manager for Coleco Industries and Contel Corporation; Corporate Manager-Employee Relations for Citizens Utilities; Regional Director of Human Resources for both GTE and Citizens Telecom and Corporate Director of Administration for Intermagnetics General Corporation. I have always remained an involved generalist performing or being responsible for all aspects of this function.

What aspect of your business do you enjoy the most? The same aspect that I enjoyed in my corporate roles and the reason I chose this line of work, helping organizations create harmonious environments where all the people within work collaboratively, are fairly treated, recognized and respected for their efforts and therefore remain loyal and productive employees.

In your opinion, what are some of the more substantial issues facing companies today? Albeit for somewhat different reasons than ten years ago, two of the most critical issues remain Staffing and Retention. Staffing requires solid foundational pieces such as complete, accurate and current position descriptions, proper recruitment strategies and educated interviewing and selection skills. Retention starts with proper orientation practices and requires effectively communicating company expectations and creating collaborative, motivating and enjoyable work environments. There are many initiatives, practices and programs required to make these things happen and my company successfully provides them.
